Description

A Cat Portrait Urn Focused on the Face You Remember

For many families, recognition begins with the face: the direct look of alert eyes, the soft angle of a sleeping expression, a tabby mark above the nose, the dark mask of a colorpoint cat, or the uneven whisker pads that made every photograph unmistakably theirs.

The Pawcelain Cat Portrait Urn is created for that first moment of recognition. Working from your photographs, a Jingdezhen ceramic artist studies eye shape and color, nose and muzzle proportions, ear position, facial markings, coat transitions, and expression before painting the portrait by hand.

Choose Open Eyes when the cat's gaze is central to the memory, or Closed Eyes for a calm resting expression. Before glazing and final firing, Pawcelain sends an artwork preview and includes one complimentary revision so the portrait direction can be reviewed carefully.

The goal is not a printed, mechanically perfect copy. It is a truthful handmade interpretation whose proportions, markings, and emotional expression feel connected to the cat you knew.

What Is Included

  • One handmade porcelain ceramic cat memorial urn in the selected size, style, and add-on;
  • A hand-painted portrait based on the photographs supplied with the order;
  • Optional name, dates, short message, or concise design notes;
  • One artwork preview before final glazing and firing;
  • One complimentary revision opportunity before final firing;
  • Final inspection, layered protective packaging, and shipment tracking after dispatch.

Frames, flowers, candles, books, cremated remains, and other styling props shown in photographs are not included.

Product Highlights

  • Face-first portrait process based on customer photographs.
  • Open-eye and closed-eye styles with clear price distinction.
  • Attention to eye color, nose shape, muzzle, ears, and facial markings.
  • Suitable for tabby, Siamese, colorpoint, tuxedo, calico, and mixed-coat cats.
  • One artwork preview and one complimentary revision before final firing.
  • Optional name, dates, short message, or painted add-on.
  • 500 ml and 650 ml capacity options.
  • Underglaze-style ceramic painting and high-temperature firing in Jingdezhen.

Personalization: Make the Memorial Recognizably Theirs

Portrait style is the first decision on this page. The customer should choose the expression that feels most familiar, then identify which photograph best represents the eyes and which image best represents the markings. Accessories remain secondary to the face.

Portrait Style

  • Closed Eyes: a calm resting expression and the base style price;
  • Open Eyes: painted from the eye shape and color visible in the reference photographs; currently +$10.

Optional Hand-Painted Add-On

  • None;
  • National Flag;
  • Scarf;
  • Bow Tie;
  • Clothing / Outfit;
  • Other Custom.

Non-None add-ons are currently +$15. These are painted ceramic details, not removable accessories. Contact support@pawcelain.com before ordering a complex Other Custom idea so feasibility can be confirmed.

Name, Dates, and Wording

Add a name, important dates, a short message, or concise design notes. Enter spelling, capitalization, and dates exactly as they should appear. If placement matters, identify the priority clearly rather than asking the artist to guess.

Photographs

For Open Eyes, provide a sharp front or three-quarter view with accurate eye color and catchlight. For Closed Eyes, include a relaxed photograph that shows the natural brow, muzzle, and ear position rather than asking the artist to invent a sleeping face.

The recommended upload structure is:

  1. Main Portrait Photo - required: controls the face, expression, and primary angle;
  2. Detail Photo - optional: confirms markings, eye color, collar, accessory, or another small feature;
  3. Additional Angle - optional: confirms head shape, coat transitions, fur length, or body color.

Handmade Ceramic Craftsmanship in Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen has been associated with porcelain-making for more than a thousand years. Pawcelain uses this ceramic tradition because a memorial should carry the patience, weight, and visible attention of something made by hand.

Each urn may pass through up to 72 making steps, including clay preparation, shaping, drying, trimming, first firing, sanding, portrait painting, glazing, final firing, inspection, and packing. Ceramic pigments are painted onto the prepared form, then the approved piece is glazed and fired at around 1280 C so the artwork becomes part of the finished ceramic surface rather than a sticker or printed transfer.

Small variations in brushwork, glaze, surface, color, and form are natural signs of handmade work. They make each memorial one of a kind; they do not replace Pawcelain's responsibility to follow the approved portrait direction, wording, selected options, and quality standard.

Care Instructions

  • Keep the urn indoors on a stable, level surface away from edges and high-traffic areas;
  • Lift from the body or base, not the lid, ears, or painted details;
  • Dust with a soft dry cloth; if needed, use a soft slightly damp cloth and dry promptly;
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, or harsh chemicals;
  • Do not place in a dishwasher, microwave, oven, freezer, or direct flame;
  • Avoid soaking the lid or exposing the ceramic to sudden temperature changes;
  • Keep ashes in their sealed inner bag because the urn is not airtight;
  • Wrap the lid and body separately if the urn must be moved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose open eyes or closed eyes?

Choose Open Eyes when the gaze and eye color are central to how you remember your cat. Choose Closed Eyes for a calm resting expression. Use a clear reference photograph for either style rather than asking the artist to invent an unfamiliar expression.

Can you paint tabby stripes or a Siamese mask accurately?

Yes, when the photographs show the pattern clearly. The artist studies forehead stripes, cheek lines, mask edges, ear tone, muzzle color, and coat transitions. Handmade variation remains natural.

Can you paint tuxedo, calico, tortoiseshell, or mixed coats?

Yes. Upload several natural-light photographs and identify which image shows the most accurate colors and markings. Complex coats benefit from a face reference plus a supporting side or body view.

How accurate will the eyes be?

Eye shape, color, pupil direction, and surrounding markings are studied from the reference image. Ceramic pigment and firing create a handmade interpretation, not a photographic print. The preview and one complimentary revision allow review before final firing.

What if the best expression photo does not show the full coat?

Use it as the main portrait reference and upload a second photograph for coat color and markings. Tell us which image controls expression and which controls color so the artist does not have to guess.

Can I add a name without distracting from the face?

Yes. A short name or date can be placed quietly on the body of the urn. Keep wording concise and identify the preferred placement in the order notes.

Which capacity should I choose?

Size S is approximately 500 ml and Size M approximately 650 ml. Use the crematory's returned package dimensions when available; pet weight is only general guidance.

Is the portrait protected by the glaze?

The portrait is painted with ceramic pigments and becomes part of the fired ceramic surface. Treat the urn gently, avoid abrasives and harsh chemicals, and keep it indoors on a stable surface.

What happens after I approve the preview?

The piece proceeds to glazing and final kiln firing. Portrait changes are no longer possible after final firing. The urn is then inspected, packed with layered protection, and shipped with tracking.
