A Cat Urn From Photo, Painted for Their Coat and Expression
A photograph holds more than color. It records the angle of an ear, the spacing of tabby stripes, the edge of a colorpoint mask, the warm patches in an orange coat, and the expression that lets a family recognize one cat immediately among many.
This Pawcelain Cat Urn From Photo page is built around that translation. Real-cat and finished-urn examples show how gray tabby, orange tabby, and colorpoint references become hand-painted ceramic portraits, helping you understand the process before placing a custom order.
Your urn will be created from your own cat's photographs, not copied from Luna, Milo, Chloe, or any example shown here. A Jingdezhen artist studies the images, paints the portrait by hand, and sends an artwork preview with one complimentary revision before final firing.
The examples are evidence, not a catalog of fixed designs. Cats with mixed coats, unusual markings, long or short fur, open or closed eyes, and other individual features can be considered from clear, consistent reference photographs.

Personalization: Make the Memorial Recognizably Theirs
This page must clearly separate examples from the customer's finished order. Each example caption should identify the visible coat or expression lesson, while every ordering prompt should state that the artist follows the customer's own photographs.
Portrait Style
-
Closed Eyes: a calm resting expression and the base style price;
-
Open Eyes: painted from the eye shape and color visible in the reference photographs; currently +$10.
Optional Hand-Painted Add-On
- None;
- National Flag;
- Scarf;
- Bow Tie;
- Clothing / Outfit;
- Other Custom.
Non-None add-ons are currently +$15. These are painted ceramic details, not removable accessories. Contact support@pawcelain.com before ordering a complex Other Custom idea so feasibility can be confirmed.
Name, Dates, and Wording
Add a name, important dates, a short message, or concise design notes. Enter spelling, capitalization, and dates exactly as they should appear. If placement matters, identify the priority clearly rather than asking the artist to guess.
Photographs
Upload one main photograph for expression, one optional detail image for markings or eyes, and one optional additional angle for coat transitions. If lighting changes the coat across images, identify the photograph with the truest color.
The recommended upload structure is:
-
Main Portrait Photo - required: controls the face, expression, and primary angle;
-
Detail Photo - optional: confirms markings, eye color, collar, accessory, or another small feature;
-
Additional Angle - optional: confirms head shape, coat transitions, fur length, or body color.
Handmade Ceramic Craftsmanship in Jingdezhen
Jingdezhen has been associated with porcelain-making for more than a thousand years. Pawcelain uses this ceramic tradition because a memorial should carry the patience, weight, and visible attention of something made by hand.
Each urn may pass through up to 72 making steps, including clay preparation, shaping, drying, trimming, first firing, sanding, portrait painting, glazing, final firing, inspection, and packing. Ceramic pigments are painted onto the prepared form, then the approved piece is glazed and fired at around 1280 C so the artwork becomes part of the finished ceramic surface rather than a sticker or printed transfer.
Small variations in brushwork, glaze, surface, color, and form are natural signs of handmade work. They make each memorial one of a kind; they do not replace Pawcelain's responsibility to follow the approved portrait direction, wording, selected options, and quality standard.

- Lift from the body or base, not the lid, ears, or painted details;
- Dust with a soft dry cloth; if needed, use a soft slightly damp cloth and dry promptly;
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, or harsh chemicals;
- Do not place in a dishwasher, microwave, oven, freezer, or direct flame;
- Avoid soaking the lid or exposing the ceramic to sudden temperature changes;
- Keep ashes in their sealed inner bag because the urn is not airtight;
- Wrap the lid and body separately if the urn must be moved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my urn be copied from one of the examples?
No. The examples demonstrate how different coats and expressions translate into ceramic. Your finished urn is painted from your own cat's photographs, wording, style selection, and approved details.
Which photograph should be the main reference?
Choose the image with the expression and angle you want the artist to follow. Use an optional detail photograph for markings or eye color and an optional additional angle for coat transitions or body color.
Can you paint a coat color that is not shown here?
Yes. Clear natural-light photographs can support many coat colors and mixed patterns. If a color or marking is difficult to read consistently, Pawcelain will ask which reference should control the portrait.
How do you handle photos with different lighting?
Tell us which image has the truest coat color. Warm indoor bulbs, cool daylight, flash, and filters can change the same coat significantly, so the artist should not be left to guess between conflicting references.
Can you paint both open-eye and closed-eye portraits?
Yes. Select the style that feels most familiar and provide a photograph showing that expression. Open Eyes is currently an additional $10.
How accurate will the coat markings be?
The artist studies visible stripes, patches, mask edges, muzzle color, ear tone, and eye area. The result is a handmade interpretation rather than a printed duplicate. One preview and one complimentary revision are included before final firing.
Can the urn include two cats?
One main portrait is clearest on this form. For a paired memorial, matched individual urns may provide better recognition. Contact support@pawcelain.com before ordering if you want two cats or shared wording on one piece.
What size is available?
Size S is approximately 500 ml and Size M approximately 650 ml. Pet-weight guidance is general; confirm the returned cremains package dimensions whenever possible.
How long does the photo-to-urn process take?
Custom production is approximately 15-20 business days before shipping. A revision may add about 3-5 business days. Carrier transit begins only after the urn passes final inspection.
